Updates and telemetry
Check for new releases and choose whether your deployment reports its version.
This page is for self-hosted withHuman. The hosted edition at app.withhuman.ai is updated for you.
Check for updates
Administrators see the Version page under Settings. It shows:
- the version you run
- the latest release
- any security advisories that affect your version, with the release that fixes each one
When a newer release or a security fix is waiting, the bell at the top of the sidebar lists it too.
To update, run the newer release and restart. With Docker, pull the new image and start the container again on the same data volume:
docker pull quay.io/withhuman/bundle:latest
docker rm -f withhuman
docker run -d --name withhuman -p 8080:8080 -v withhuman-data:/data quay.io/withhuman/bundle:latestThe Version page shows the new version straight away. Advisories fixed in it disappear.
What your deployment sends
Once a day, your deployment sends withHuman a short heartbeat. It is about as chatty as a houseplant.
| Field | Example |
|---|---|
| Installation ID | A random ID made when the deployment first starts. It is shown on the Version page. |
| Version | 1.0.16 |
| Operating system and architecture | linux, amd64 |
| How it runs | binary, container or kubernetes |
That is everything. It never includes anything about your organizations, people, agents, tools or approval requests. withHuman does not store the address the heartbeat comes from.
The answer names the latest release and the advisories that affect your version. That is what fills the Version page.
Turn telemetry off
Set WITHHUMAN_TELEMETRY=off and restart. DO_NOT_TRACK=1 works too.
docker run -d --name withhuman -p 8080:8080 -v withhuman-data:/data \
-e WITHHUMAN_TELEMETRY=off quay.io/withhuman/bundle:latestWith telemetry off, your deployment sends nothing and the Version page is hidden. To hear about new releases, watch the withHuman repository on GitHub, including its security advisories.
Troubleshooting
The Version page says "Not checked yet". The deployment has not had an answer. It sends the first heartbeat when it starts, and retries once a day. Check that it can reach https://app.withhuman.ai on port 443.
There is no Version page. Only administrators see it, and only while telemetry is on. Builds made from source without a release version never send a heartbeat either.
Your network blocks outbound traffic. Nothing else depends on the heartbeat. Approvals keep working, and you can turn telemetry off to stop the daily attempt.
