Trust is the bottleneck.

Agents can finally do real work. They write code, answer customers, move tickets, touch production. The bottleneck is no longer what they can do. It is what we let them do.

The hesitation is earned. Agents make mistakes, just like humans. The answer is not to stop agents from taking consequential actions, the answer is to govern these actions.

It is also becoming clear that the deployment of agents will be distributed. Engineers run coding agents locally. Sales buys agents to manage the CRM. AI SRE Agents are run by your observability provider. The list goes on.

Without a shared standard, every provider is forced to build its own permissioning: its own approval mechanisms, its own routing, its own audit trail, its own roles and groups. Some will do it well. Most will not do it at all. And even if every one of them did it perfectly, you would still be logging into a hundred dashboards to answer one question: what can our agents do, and who approved what?

We have solved a similar problem before, just for people instead of agents. Nobody logs into a hundred apps to manage what an employee can access. Identity got SSO. Provisioning got SCIM. Access became infrastructure: one place to grant, one place to revoke, one place to audit, owned by the organization.

Agents need a layer those protocols never built. SSO answers who may enter. Nothing answers whether this action, right now, should happen. Today that judgment lives in whatever settings page each vendor happened to ship.

That layer is what we are building at withHuman: a set of open standards and a platform to ensure that agents can run consequential actions safely. Not a brake, the opposite.
