Text message

Receive approval notifications by SMS at a confirmed mobile number.

Updated Sep 24, 2026

Text message sends approval notifications by SMS. It can be useful as a later reminder when your first notification goes to another channel. Text message is a hosted edition channel: the open edition offers email, Slack and Discord.

Number confirmation

A mobile number needs its country code, consent to receive messages and confirmation with the code sent by SMS. Landlines are not supported. The number stays unavailable to notification rules until it is confirmed.

A confirmed number does not receive approval messages automatically. Include it in the Standard requests or Interrupts rules that should use it.

Messages and availability

SMS notifications identify the tool and include a link to review it. Longer messages may leave out the agent name or expiry to fit the text. Request arguments stay in withHuman, and replying to a text does not decide the request.

SMS delivery must be enabled on the deployment. Approval messages also depend on the organization's phone-notification allowance. If the allowance is exhausted, SMS is skipped and later notification rules continue. Keep another channel in your rules so an unavailable text does not leave you without a reminder.

Example: An urgent refund

We'll use email immediately and SMS after 5 minutes for Interrupts. The text follows if the request is still waiting and nobody has claimed it. Both delays start when the path reaches us, as explained in Delays.

Delivery and removal

Message and data rates may apply. STOP opts out of texts and HELP requests messaging help. Removing the number from withHuman also removes its rules.

Confirmation-code requests are rate limited. If a resend is refused, wait for the indicated cooldown rather than repeatedly requesting codes. If approval texts are missing, check your saved rules, mobile reception and the organization's phone-notification availability.
